The Ethiopian National Consultative Commission announced that it had held "productive" discussions with the leaders of the interim administration in the Tigray region, political parties, civic associations, and members of Tigray's public diplomacy.
However, opposition political parties operating in the region have dismissed the commission's statement, stating that effective discussions have not taken place. They have also expressed serious doubts about the consultation process due to unresolved political issues.
The leaders of the Tigray Freedom Party and Salsai Weyane Tigray have stated that "meaningful discussions" have not taken place with the parties; they have protested that the interim administration cannot represent Tigray in the process.
Tigray Freedom Party Chairman Dejen Ntokhe told Addis Standard, “The people of Tigray still have important political issues that have not been resolved. The consultations cannot continue until the constitutional order is fully restored.
Any such process should be carried out by a legitimately elected government that represents the people of Tigray and speaks for the people.”
Salsai Weyane Tigray Chairman Alula Hailu expressed similar concerns. “They are not paying attention to the relevant questions that we have been raising for a long time.
They only want to ensure that Tigray is included when preparing constitutional amendments,” he said.
