In order for the National dialogue Commission to implement the consultation work it intends to carry out in the Tigray region, the region must return to a constitutional system, said Ato Amanuel Assefa, Vice President of the Interim Administration of the Tigray Region.
The Vice President recalled that the interim administration had discussed with the commission the opportunities and challenges of launching a national dialogue process in the region, but explained that before the commission can begin its work, the Pretoria Agreement must be fully implemented and the region must return to its constitutional status.
He also stated that the commission should work with the federal government to implement this, and that when Tigray regains its regional status, the commission can carry out the same work it has done in other regions.
"The commission is carrying out its work in regions that have constitutional status. However, since the Tigray region has lost this status, we have requested that the federal government negotiate with it to implement the Pretoria Agreement and create an environment that will allow the commission to carry out its work," he said, explaining the issues he raised during the discussion.
He explained that it is unclear how the Western Tigray districts, Raya areas, and displaced citizens in Sudan, which are currently outside the interim administration, will be represented in the national dialogue, and that they should not be seen as any other region with priority issues.
