The President of the Tigray Interim Administration, Lieutenant General Tadesse Werede, arrived in Addis Ababa from Mekelle yesterday.

The President headed to Addis Ababa leading a delegation for talks with the federal government, the Tigray Interim Administration Office announced in a brief statement.

According to a statement released by the office on its official social media page yesterday afternoon, the purpose of the visit is to discuss “general issues” with federal officials.

However, the statement did not mention the detailed agenda of the meeting or the identities of the federal government officials that Lt. Gen. Tadesse Werede will meet.

The visit comes three years after the signing of the Pretoria Peace Agreement, which ended the two-year war in Tigray, and at a time when the political and security situation in northern Ethiopia remains uncertain.

Although the agreement details key initiatives, including the restoration of basic services and the establishment of an interim administration for the region, implementation of these tasks remains inconsistent.

The displacement of hundreds of thousands of civilians, the continued unresolved conflicts in western Tigray, and the presence of armed forces other than the Federal Defense Forces in the region are among the main issues that still require a response.
