Three people were killed and 12 others injured in three separate road accidents in Addis Ababa’s Nifas Silk-Lafto sub-city in a single day, according to the Addis Ababa Police Commission.

The first accident occurred at around 9:30 a.m. near Jemo St Michael Church in Woreda 13, when a Sinotruk truck travelling from Ayer Tena towards German Square struck 10 vehicles stopped at a traffic light and a light pole, said Inspector Mengistu Tadesse, head of the commission’s traffic accident investigation directorate.

A 44-year-old woman travelling in one of the vehicles died in the crash. One other person sustained serious injuries, while 11 people suffered minor injuries. The injured were receiving medical treatment, and police were investigating the cause of the accident, Mengistu said.

In a second incident, a pickup truck travelling from Jemo St Michael towards Jemo 3 struck and killed a pedestrian crossing the road in Jemo 3, Woreda 1, at around 6 p.m.

A third fatal accident occurred at around 10:30 p.m. near Hachalu Road in Woreda 15, where a Hyundai vehicle travelling towards the Garment area collided with the roadside, killing the driver.

Police said the three accidents claimed three lives in the sub-city in one day and urged motorists and pedestrians to exercise caution to prevent further road deaths.
