Suspect Arrested for Allegedly Using Women’s Clothing to Carry Out Fraud

Addis Ababa Police have arrested a man accused of disguising himself using women’s clothing and accessories to deceive individuals as part of an alleged fraud scheme.

The suspect, identified as Jemal Anes, was arrested around Asko Menaheria area in Woreda 5 of Gullele Sub-City, according to information released by the police.

Police said the suspect had been moving around wearing items including women’s hair extensions and earrings. The arrest followed a public tip after individuals became suspicious while interacting with him.

A physical examination conducted after his arrest reportedly found that the suspect was male, according to information obtained from the Gullele Sub-City Police Office.

Investigators said witnesses indicated that Jemal had previously engaged in similar activities while disguising himself as a woman. Police also said photographs showing him wearing different women’s clothing and accessories at various times were found on his mobile phone.

Addis Ababa Police said activities involving disguises could be used as methods to facilitate criminal acts and urged the public to report suspicious activities to law enforcement.
