More than 70 people have been killed in a drone attack on a mosque in Sudan's Darfur region.

The Sudanese Rapid Response Force (SRRF) has been accused of being responsible for the attack in the city of El-Fasher, but the group has not claimed responsibility.

The Rapid Response Force and the Sudanese army have been fighting in Sudan for the past two years in the civil war.

The Sudanese army is rapidly gaining control of El-Fasher, the last stronghold of the Sudanese army in Darfur, a town of more than 300,000 people.

A resident of the town told the BBC that the drone attack, which took place during Friday morning prayers, killed several people.

Medical sources said 78 people were killed and 20 others were injured in the attack. However, the rescue operation from the rubble of the mosque continued unabated.

The BBC has been able to verify the authenticity of images showing around 30 bodies covered in cloth and blankets near the mosque in the western part of the city.
