At least 1,000 people have been killed in a landslide in the Mara Mountains of western Sudan, the Sudan Liberation Movement/Rebels have announced.
Sunday's landslide, triggered by days of heavy rain, "destroyed" the village of Tarasin, leaving only one person alive, the group said in a statement.
The movement has asked for humanitarian assistance from the United Nations and other continental and international organizations.
Many residents of North Darfur state, displaced from their homes by the fighting between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Action Forces (RSF), have taken refuge in the Mara Mountains.
According to the European calendar, in April 2023, the civil war between the Sudanese army and the RSF caused the country to experience a severe famine, and it was reported that a genocide was committed in West Darfur.
More than 800,000 Sudanese have fled landslide-hit Darfur since the conflict erupted in 2023.
