Children who were rehearsing for a demonstration in support of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam in Addis Ababa on Sunday were injured when a stage collapsed.

The teenagers were reportedly preparing to perform for the city's residents and invited guests following the completion of the Renaissance Dam.

The number of children injured and the extent of their injuries are unknown, and neither government officials nor the media have commented on the incident.

The BBC has been unable to obtain information from two hospitals where the injured children were reportedly taken for medical treatment.

Witnesses told the BBC that the stage where the children were practicing was made of wood, adding that the accident occurred in Meskel Square.
