The South Sudan Civil Aviation Authority (SSCAA) has confirmed that a passenger aircraft crashed about 20 kilometres southwest of Juba, resulting in the loss of all people on board.

The aircraft, a Cessna 208 Caravan registered as 5Y-NOK and operated by CityLink Aviation Ltd, departed Yei at 9:15am local time en route to Juba International Airport before losing communication at 9:43am.

On board were 14 people, including 13 passengers and one pilot. The passengers comprised two Kenyan nationals and 12 South Sudanese nationals, the authority said.

The SSCAA said preliminary information suggests the crash may have been linked to adverse weather conditions, particularly low visibility, though investigations are ongoing.

A response team has been deployed to the crash site to collect information and support recovery operations.

The authority extended condolences to the families of those on board and said further updates will be provided once verified information becomes available.
