South Africa Tops African Wealth Rankings, Enters Global Top 50

South Africa has emerged as the only African nation in UBS’s 2025 list of the world’s 50 wealthiest countries, ranked by household wealth, and is also featured in Forbes’ 2025 ranking. The country’s total household wealth is estimated at USD 1,027 billion, highlighting its position as the continent’s leading economic power.

The nation is home to 37,400 millionaires, 102 centi-millionaires, and five billionaires, a concentration of high-net-worth individuals that surpasses the combined figures of Nigeria, Egypt, Kenya, and Morocco.

Globally, the ranking is led by the United States, with total household wealth of USD 145,800 billion, followed by China (USD 84,485 billion), Japan (USD 22,582 billion), Germany (USD 17,426 billion), and France (USD 15,989 billion). Other countries in the top 50 include the United Kingdom, India, Canada, Italy, South Korea, Switzerland, Australia, Brazil, Mexico, Russia, Singapore, and the United Arab Emirates.
