South Africa Pledges $2.5 Million to Africa CDC Ebola Response Fund

South Africa has pledged $2.5 million to support Ebola response operations in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda through the Africa Epidemics Fund. The contribution will strengthen surveillance, laboratory capacity, rapid response teams, and infection prevention measures.

The funding aligns with continental efforts to improve coordinated emergency health responses amid ongoing public health threats. It follows a briefing by the African Union Commission Chairperson on the evolving Ebola situation.

Africa CDC welcomed the pledge as part of growing African-led financing for health emergencies. The support will also help strengthen broader continental coordination mechanisms for outbreak response.
