Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has urged countries bordering the Red Sea to pursue dialogue and cooperation, stressing "the importance of safeguarding the sovereignty of countries and preventing conflict."
In an interview with Al-Arabiya, the President said, "Although Ethiopia is a landlocked country, it has legal means to use the Red Sea," adding, "This must be based on internationally accepted principles."
"There are rumors that a military conflict could break out between Ethiopia and neighboring countries," said Hassan Sheikh, adding that Somalia "does not support any act of aggression or violation of territorial integrity."
The President emphasized the strategic importance of the Red Sea for the region and called on all countries to resolve disputes peacefully. He also reaffirmed Somalia's commitment to regional stability.
He also praised the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, saying it will play a key role in economic growth and energy integration in the Horn of Africa.
Speaking about Somalia's relations with Egypt following their attendance at the dam's inauguration ceremony, they said, "Somalia values its strategic partnership with Egypt and its strong relationship with Ethiopia."
