Sun King is expanding its presence in Africa with new manufacturing facilities in Kenya and Nigeria, aiming to industrialise the production of off-grid energy solutions and reduce import dependence by 150 million US dollars in each country over the next five years, Bloomberg reported.

The Kenyan facility, the company’s first large-scale manufacturing site on the continent, will initially produce 700,000 solar units annually, with room to increase capacity. It will also assemble televisions and smartphones optimised to operate on Sun King’s solar systems, integrating energy solutions with everyday technology.

The company’s growth reflects soaring demand for off-grid energy across Africa. Monthly installations have jumped to more than 300,000, up from 100,000 in 2022, bringing electricity to roughly 1.8 billion people living with unreliable or no grid access.
