SoftBank Group has completed its approximately 3.1 billion US dollar acquisition of DigitalBridge Group, taking control of the US digital infrastructure investment firm as the Japanese technology group expands its push into assets supporting artificial intelligence and the digital economy.

The transaction closed on September 30, 2026, making DigitalBridge an indirect subsidiary of SoftBank. DigitalBridge will continue to operate as a separately managed platform under chief executive Marc Ganzi.

Under the terms of the transaction, DigitalBridge shareholders received 16 US dollars in cash for each outstanding common share. The company’s shares, previously traded on the New York Stock Exchange, are no longer publicly traded following completion of the merger.

DigitalBridge invests in digital infrastructure, including data centres, fibre networks, cell towers, small cells and other assets supporting connectivity and computing capacity. Its acquisition gives SoftBank a larger presence in a sector attracting substantial capital as demand for infrastructure to support AI applications grows.

SoftBank agreed to acquire DigitalBridge in December 2025, putting the equity value of the transaction at about 3.1 billion US dollars and the enterprise value at approximately 4 billion US dollars. The deal formed part of SoftBank’s wider expansion across AI, semiconductors, data centres and related infrastructure.

The acquisition comes as SoftBank has stepped up financing for its AI strategy. The group raised 11.1 billion US dollars through a high-yield bond sale in September, with the proceeds supporting investments including its commitments to AI and digital infrastructure.

DigitalBridge’s financial position and operating results will be included in SoftBank Group’s consolidated financial statements from the acquisition date.
