Seychelles President Patrick Herminie has appointed Sarah Lloyd as governor of the Central Bank of Seychelles, with the incoming chief pledging to preserve monetary stability, protect the institution’s independence and develop the country’s financial services sector.

Lloyd received her letter of appointment from Herminie at State House on Wednesday ahead of assuming office on November 1, 2026, according to the presidency.

Her appointment comes as the central bank continues its mandate of maintaining price stability and safeguarding the financial system. Lloyd said her priorities would include strengthening financial services while preserving confidence in the banking system.

“Alongside the already established priorities of the institution, my focus will be on further deepening the financial services sector, while ensuring that we preserve the stability of our financial system and maintain price stability,” she said.

Lloyd also stressed the importance of protecting the central bank’s autonomy, acknowledging that differences could arise between monetary policymakers and the government.

She said constructive engagement and a shared understanding of policy decisions would be important in managing such differences, while maintaining the institution’s independence and reputation for integrity.

“The Central Bank of Seychelles has a history and legacy of being a strong institution that has always delivered with integrity and independence. Continuing to maintain that reputation will be paramount in fulfilling my duties,” she said.

Herminie highlighted the importance of continuity in the central bank’s work and wished Lloyd success as she prepares to take office.

Lloyd said her immediate priority would be to engage with staff across the institution to understand their needs and determine how they could work together to deliver its responsibilities effectively.

She began her career at the central bank in 2007, spending about 12 years in various roles before moving into commercial banking. Her positions included research assistant, economist and senior financial stability analyst. She also established and managed the institution’s Financial Stability Unit and represented Seychelles at regional and international forums.

Before her appointment, Lloyd served as chief risk officer at Absa Bank Zambia PLC from March 2022. She previously held the same position at Absa Bank (Seychelles) Limited between February 2019 and March 2022.

She holds a master’s degree in financial economics from City University London and a bachelor’s degree in banking and international finance from Cass Business School.

Lloyd’s appointment places financial stability, central bank independence and the development of financial services at the centre of her stated priorities as she prepares to lead the institution.
