The displaced people have complained that the food aid they are receiving is inadequate and of poor quality.

Hundreds of displaced people in western Tigray have said they are at risk of "hunger and disease" due to a lack of humanitarian assistance.

Residents told the BBC that many elderly people, pregnant women and children are suffering from a lack of food and medical care in the refugee camp, which is home to more than 10,000 displaced people.

At least 300 people have not received food aid in the past six months, according to the coordinator of the refugee center.

A mother at the shelter explained the situation, saying, "There are elderly people; we see a lot of them. Some of the bread they bring for our own needs has dried up and they won't eat it. They try to eat it by soaking it in water."

"Everyone here is starving," said the displaced woman, explaining that there is a problem with the quality of the food aid they are receiving. "The main problem is that there is no food. The food they are giving us is not food. The food they have given us in the past six months is not food."
