Seven Ethiopian Migrants Die of Hunger and Thirst at Sea

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has announced that seven Ethiopian migrants have died of hunger and thirst while trying to cross from Somalia to Yemen.

The organization said a boat carrying 250 Ethiopian migrants, including 82 children, arrived in the southern Yemeni town of Arqa on Tuesday. However, it said “seven migrants died of hunger and thirst on the way.”

The United Nations said in a statement on Wednesday that its teams in Yemen had provided "life-saving assistance to people who had survived a harrowing seven-day journey from Bosaso, Somalia.

more than 350 refugees have died or are missing in action along the eastern route since the beginning of 2025.

Earlier on Sunday, a boat carrying 154 Ethiopian migrants sank off the coast of Yemen, killing 68 people. The UN refugee agency said 74 others were still missing.
