South Korea's president has said he would accept an agreement between Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un that North Korea would halt further production in exchange for the elimination of its nuclear weapons.
President Lee Jae-myung said that North Korea is producing 15 to 20 more nuclear weapons a year.
He also said that stopping the production of additional weapons is a "realistic and appropriate temporary emergency measure" to eliminate nuclear weapons.
North Korea has promised to become a nuclear power by 2022 and has said it will never dismantle its weapons.
Previous efforts to get Pyongyang to give up its nuclear weapons have failed, and it has rejected calls to return to talks since 2019.
The South Korean president said "While we will never abandon our long-term goal of denuclearization, I believe there are clear benefits to getting North Korea to stop its nuclear and missile enrichment activities."
