Russian Ambassador Leaves Seychelles After Six-and-a-Half Years of Service

Russian Ambassador to Seychelles Artyom Kozhin has concluded his six-and-a-half-year diplomatic assignment in the island nation, marking the end of a tenure during which both countries strengthened bilateral cooperation. Kozhin held a farewell meeting with Seychelles President Patrick Herminie at State House, attended by Barry Faure, Minister for Foreign Affairs and the Diaspora, where the two sides reflected on developments in Seychelles-Russia relations.

During the meeting, Kozhin thanked President Herminie for the close working relationship established between the two countries, describing bilateral ties as stable and saying cooperation had become deeper in recent years. The ambassador highlighted several milestones achieved during his posting, including President Herminie’s state visit to Russia and Russia’s participation in Seychelles’ 50th Independence Anniversary celebrations.

Kozhin said preparations had been completed for the opening of a Seychelles embassy in Moscow, which is expected to open later this year. He also briefed President Herminie on ongoing bilateral projects. The ambassador also highlighted an initiative to send a message from President Herminie from outer space. Seychelles’ national flag and Coat of Arms are currently orbiting Earth as part of the initiative, with plans for the items to be returned and displayed in a museum.

President Herminie thanked Kozhin for his contribution to bilateral relations and for his support during Seychelles’ 50th National Day Anniversary celebrations. The president also recognised Russia’s cooperation initiatives, including the recent donation of trained service dogs to Seychelles. He said the dogs are supporting local authorities in efforts to combat drug trafficking.

The outgoing ambassador, who served as Dean of the Diplomatic Corps in Seychelles, will take up a new diplomatic assignment in Qatar. He said he looks forward to continuing engagement with Seychelles in his new role. The departure marks the end of a significant chapter in Seychelles-Russia diplomatic relations.
