Russia Announces Easter Ceasefire Window Amid Continued Frontline Clashes

Russia has declared a temporary Easter ceasefire in its war against Ukraine, ordering a pause in military operations for a limited period while fighting and drone activity continue along the frontline.

President Vladimir Putin said Russian forces would halt combat activity “in all directions” from 16:00 local time on Saturday 11 April until the end of Easter Sunday. He added that troops should remain ready to respond to “possible enemy provocations” and any “aggressive actions.”

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky responded by saying Kyiv was prepared to take “symmetrical steps” if Russia adhered to the truce. He said “people need an Easter free from threats and real movement toward peace.”

The announcement followed renewed Ukrainian calls for a temporary ceasefire, including a proposal relayed through the United States earlier this week suggesting a holiday truce as an initial step toward broader de-escalation.

Despite the declared pause, hostilities have continued across multiple regions of Ukraine, where air raid sirens remain a regular feature of daily life. Drone and missile strikes have persisted throughout the conflict.

Scepticism remains over whether the temporary ceasefire will hold, given previous short-lived pauses in fighting. Earlier this year, Russia announced an “energy truce” aimed at halting strikes on Ukraine’s power infrastructure, but it collapsed within weeks.

Businesses in energy, logistics and reconstruction sectors are closely monitoring the situation, as any sustained ceasefire could open opportunities for humanitarian and economic recovery efforts in the region.

Overall, Russia’s announcement of an Easter ceasefire window provides a brief pause in hostilities but comes amid continued frontline clashes and uncertainty about long-term peace prospects.
