The Red Sea Afar Democratic Organization (RSADO), a political and military opposition group to the Eritrean government, announced the graduation of new fighters who have completed more than three months of intensive military training.

In a statement issued by the organization following the graduation ceremony, Ibrahim Harun, the organization's leader and military commander, noted that the discipline and perseverance shown by the trainees was admirable, and said that completing their training is a step towards strengthening the organization's military capabilities.

According to the organization, the training focused on combat operations, guerrilla warfare tactics, physical fitness development, and strategic deployments in open and densely populated areas.

Ibrahim Harun, the group reaffirmed its mission to “protect the rights of the Afar communities of the Red Sea” and “resist the oppression that is being perpetrated by the Eritrean government.”

He added that he plans to “enhance its operational capabilities, including maritime capabilities, to meet current political and military needs.” He also called on “Eritrean opposition groups to form a united front to fight the Eritrean government, which they say is threatening peace and stability in the Horn of Africa.”

The Afar people, who live across the borders of Ethiopia, Eritrea, and Djibouti, have increasingly become the center of regional geopolitical activity.
