The Federal Prisons Commission announced that the Ministry of Justice has granted permission for citizens under the protection of the law who are suspected, accused, and sentenced for various reasons to participate in the national dialogue process.
Federal Prisons Commissioner General Yenus Mulu and senior officials of the institution have stated that they have held a one-on-one discussion with the Ethiopian National Dialogue Commissioners on the conditions under which the parties under the law can be involved in the consultation process.
The National dialogue Commission, for its part, notes that the officials of the Federal Prison Commission have stated that it is necessary to discuss the issue, as they are accountable to the Ministry of Justice, in order to involve individuals in prisons in the consultation process.
“We have agreed that the National dialogue Commission can collect agendas from citizens who are currently awaiting trial in federal prisons,” the Commissioner General said, adding, “We will proceed with the process according to the program issued by the Commission.”
