Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, in his statement regarding the Red Sea and Eritrea, said; "If the war breaks out, the outcome is clear"; "We have a reliable capacity; no one will stop us."

He called on the international community to "mediate" and "find a solution" as Ethiopia's issue of gaining a seaport in the Red Sea is "inevitable."

Prime Minister Abiy spoke emphatically and extensively on the Red Sea issue in the House of People's Representatives on Tuesday, October 28, 2025.

When the members of the House presented their questions to the Prime Minister, they raised issues related to security concerns that they said were caused by the Red Sea.

Abiy stressed that his government believes the Red Sea issue is "legal, historical, geographical and economic."

Questioning the legality of the way Ethiopia lost the Red Sea, Abiy said the decision was not made by a "cabinet," "parliament," or "a referendum of the Ethiopian people."
