The US Department of Defense has released a third batch of previously classified files detailing reported unidentified anomalous phenomena, including accounts of glowing orbs seen across parts of the northeastern United States.

The release, issued on Friday, includes 72 files compiled by the FBI, CIA and Pentagon, and features witness statements, videos and artistic depictions of reported sightings. The disclosure follows two earlier releases on May 8 and May 22.

Among the newly published material are multiple reports describing luminous spherical objects observed in sparsely populated areas of the US Northeast. Several entries reference recurring sightings of glowing orbs, including red and white objects seen at different times and locations.

One FBI report based on interviews conducted in February describes two individuals who reported seeing an intensely bright object in their backyard at night. The accounts were partially redacted, including the identities of those interviewed and their exact location.

According to the report, one witness described a red spherical object about three feet wide, with a bright white core resembling a “plasma sun” inside it. The object was described as unusually vivid in colour, with the witness noting they had never seen anything comparable.

The same report also describes a second orb observed alongside the first, with the two appearing to move in tandem. The individuals later reported additional sightings of white orbs flying at higher altitude several weeks afterwards.

A separate interview conducted in July 2025 references earlier reports of similar phenomena, including what officials described as “Triangle Orbs,” “Red Orb Rotation” and “Orbs Over the Pond,” in a sparsely populated area familiar to witnesses.

Another incident recorded in October 2024 describes a light source hovering above a pond, appearing to shift in shape and intensity. The report states that the object sometimes appeared to split into multiple luminous points.
