The Oromo Liberation Front (OLF) and the Oromo Federalist Congress (OFC) have submitted an official letter requesting talks with the President of the Oromia Regional State, Ato Shimelis Abdisa.

The Oromia Regional State Administration has not yet released any information indicating whether the letter was received or whether the talks have taken place.

OFCO First Deputy Chairman Prof. Merera Gudina told the BBC that they wrote the letter "... to urge the government to at least look into what is happening in the Oromia region, as the overall crisis situation has reached a point where we cannot sit back and watch."

Prof. Merera said they requested a discussion with the Oromia Regional State President because "Oromia is in crisis."

"The killings everywhere, the inability of people to enter and exit safely, the overall crisis situation has reached a point where we cannot sit back and watch," he said.

Prof. Merera said the crisis "is undoubtedly worsening from time to time," adding, "In fact, since elections are being held this year, we will be in even more trouble."
