It has been days since two Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church priests were killed by gunmen in the Horo Guduru Welega Zone of the Oromia Region, but their bodies have not been found.

On November 29, 2025, the priests were returning to Shambu town after attending the annual celebration of the Harato Mariam Church when their car was stopped by gunmen and taken into the forest and killed.

An eyewitness said there were "20 people" in the car; "They took ten of the 20 people out and took them into the forest. The rest scattered in the cornfield and escaped."

According to the priest, the gunmen had blocked the road at the entrance to Shambu town and were armed with sniper rifles.

"They took them into the forest and called them by name. After calling them by name one by one, they released them because the children were not on the list of names the militants had captured," he said.

They said the militants were members of the Oromo Liberation Front.

The Oromo Liberation Front, which the government calls "Sene" and classifies as a terrorist group, has repeatedly been blamed for the abductions and killings, but denies the charges.
