The Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF), led by Abdurahman Mahdi, has focused on the regional autonomy of the Somali region, alongside two other political movements that emphasize the "Somali people's right to self-determination" as their foundational principle.

The basis of this assertion stems from the ONLF's stance, as articulated in the joint statement released by the 'Congress for Somali Cause' and the 'Somali Regional Democratic Alliance', which declared that "the era of empty rhetoric has come to an end."

The three entities highlighted their foundational principles in a statement issued yesterday, Tuesday, December 12, 2018, on the ONLF's social media page.

The new declaration emphasizes the need for the Somali people to enhance their "political agency" and outlines the necessity for a "structured political, diplomatic, and civic platform."

"The rights of the Somali people, dignity, and political opportunities are being undermined, as evidenced by the ongoing challenges faced in their struggle for recognition."

"The current and past Ethiopian governments have imposed a systematic oppression on the Somali people, characterized by political marginalization, ethnic discrimination, forced displacement, and continuous violence against fundamental rights."

"Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, following his ascent to power, has stated that in collaboration with the opposition, they are committed to exploring all possible avenues for justice and equity, asserting that they will strive to ensure that all potential paths to justice and fairness are pursued."

The government has stated, "In the context of dialogue, we have addressed the issue of violence, established a significant framework, and implemented policies that pose a threat to our people." This statement has been made by a representative.

"We have been informed that there is a deliberate strategy aimed at our destruction," said the three members of the committee; they have indicated that moving forward, the matter cannot be dismissed as "silence." They also noted, "This chapter of resilience has now been prepared for the upcoming challenges.
