The Oromo Federalist Congress Party has announced that it will not participate in the elections expected to be held in 2018 unless conditions are right.

If the party makes this decision, it will be isolating itself for two consecutive elections.

The party's First Deputy Chairman, Mulatu Gemechu, stated that favorable conditions should be created to participate in the elections and conduct campaign activities freely.

If it does not participate in the upcoming 7th National Election, its legal recognition may be revoked in accordance with the Election and Political Parties Registration Proclamation.

On the other hand, Melatwerki Hailu, the Chief Electoral Board Chairman, had previously stated that there were favorable conditions for holding elections when he gave an explanation on the matter.

It is recalled that some areas where there is no peace have expressed their belief that they will be peaceful by the time the elections are held.
