The United Nations has reported that the North Korean government is executing its citizens for watching foreign films and television dramas.

The report notes that North Korea, which is isolated from the rest of the world and ruled by a totalitarian regime, not only restricts the freedom of its citizens but also subjects them to forced labor.

The UN human rights office said that over the past decade, the North Korean government has tightened its control over “every aspect of its citizens’ lives.”

“No other nation in the world today lives under such restrictions,” the report said, adding that the controls are “increasingly widespread” and are also supported by technology.

Volker Turk, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, said that if this behavior continues, North Koreans will be "faced with further suffering, brutal repression and fear that will stay with them for a long time."
