North Carolina Woman Sentenced to 14 Years for Meth Distribution

A North Carolina woman has been sentenced to 14 years in federal prison for distributing large quantities of methamphetamine in the Eastern District of North Carolina, after continuing to sell the drug while cooperating with law enforcement.

Sharon Lynn Jones, 46, pleaded guilty on May 5, 2026, to distributing 50 grams or more of methamphetamine. Chief US District Judge Richard E. Myers II imposed the sentence following an investigation by the US Drug Enforcement Administration and the Duplin County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators identified Jones in May 2025 as a major methamphetamine distributor and conducted four controlled purchases from her in May and June. She was later stopped for a traffic violation, when officers found a substantial quantity of crystal methamphetamine.

Jones agreed to cooperate with investigators and was not charged at that stage. Over the following two and a half months, however, she continued to possess and sell methamphetamine with the intent to distribute it, according to the US Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of North Carolina.

Jones had previously been convicted in state court in 2024 and 2025 of possessing drugs with the intent to manufacture, sell or deliver them. She received probation in those cases. The prior convictions led the federal court to classify her as a career offender.

"The Duplin County Sheriff’s Office has partnered with the U.S. Attorney’s Office and the DEA to better serve the citizens of Duplin County, remove drug dealers that are selling large quantities of illegal narcotics, and help stop these deadly drugs from making it to our streets and communities," said Chuck Weaver, chief deputy of the Duplin County Sheriff’s Office.
