Nine countries have aligned themselves with a new European Union decision adding five individuals to its sanctions list over actions undermining or threatening Ukraine’s territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence.

The EU Council adopted the decision on August 7, 2026, under its restrictive-measures framework concerning the war in Ukraine.

Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Norway and Ukraine said they would align their national policies with the EU decision.

The EU High Representative, in a statement on behalf of the bloc, welcomed the countries’ commitments and said it took note of their alignment with the Council decision.

The move adds five individuals to the existing list of sanctioned persons and entities established under EU Decision 2014/145/CFSP.

The alignment extends the reach of the EU measures beyond the bloc and reflects continued coordination with European countries and other partners over sanctions related to Russia’s war against Ukraine.
