Nike has appointed David M. Denton as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, with the former Pfizer finance chief set to assume the role on August 17.

Denton will succeed Matthew Friend, who will step down as CFO and remain with Nike through September 4 to support the transition process. Friend is expected to participate in Nike’s fourth-quarter fiscal 2026 earnings call scheduled for June 30.

In his new role, Denton will oversee Nike’s global finance operations and work with President and Chief Executive Officer Elliott Hill and the company’s senior leadership team on financial execution, capital allocation and long-term value creation.

Denton joins Nike after serving as Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President at Pfizer since May 2022. He brings more than three decades of experience in finance and corporate leadership across major global companies.

Before joining Pfizer, Denton served as CFO and Executive Vice President at Lowe’s Companies from 2018 to 2022, where he managed finance, strategy and other enterprise functions during the company’s transformation initiatives.

Earlier in his career, he spent two decades at CVS Health, including as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, contributing to the company’s expansion into a diversified healthcare services organisation.

Nike Chief Executive Officer Elliott Hill said Denton’s experience would support the company’s efforts to strengthen execution and invest in its strategic priorities.

“Dave is a proven public-company CFO who knows how to help great consumer brands operate with discipline and invest to win,” Hill said.

Denton said he looked forward to working with Nike’s leadership team to support the company’s priorities and strengthen long-term value creation.

“Nike is one of the world’s great brands, with extraordinary strengths in sport, innovation, and global scale,” Denton said.

The leadership change comes as Nike continues implementing its Sport Offense operating model, which Hill said is intended to move the company from foundational changes toward sustained growth.

Nike also said its fourth-quarter fiscal 2026 results are expected to include a benefit from tariff refunds that was not included in its previous guidance. Excluding the one-time benefit, the company expects results to remain generally in line with earlier projections.
