The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has expressed growing concern over a surge in unruly passenger behavior across Nigerian airports, signaling a firm crackdown on misconduct. The authority emphasized that disruptive actions will no longer be tolerated, aligning with international aviation safety standards.
FAAN urged travelers to familiarize themselves with passengers’ rights and responsibilities outlined by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority and FAAN’s own regulations. Future violations will be met with sanctions as prescribed under the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Annex 17 and Nigeria’s civil aviation laws.
The recent incident at Murtala Muhammed Airport’s Domestic Terminal 2 involving a passenger on Ibom Air underscores the seriousness of the issue. After initial security intervention, the Aviation Security team detained the individual and handed her to the Nigerian Police for further investigation.
FAAN is currently reviewing its protocols related to handling and prosecuting unruly passengers, reinforcing its commitment to safeguarding safety and order within airport premises. The authority reminded all passengers to observe airport rules and maintain decorum to ensure the security and comfort of everyone.
