Nigeria’s Immigration Service will increase the cost of obtaining a standard passport from September 1, 2025, citing the need to preserve the quality and integrity of the document.
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) announced on Thursday that a 32-page passport with five years’ validity will now cost 100,000 naira (about 125 US dollars), while the 64-page passport with a 10-year validity will be priced at 200,000 naira (around 250 US dollars). The revised fees apply only to applications lodged within Nigeria.
Officials said the adjustment was necessary to sustain production standards and to align the passport system with international best practice. Nigeria introduced the enhanced e-passport in recent years, which incorporates biometric technology designed to strengthen identity verification and reduce forgery.
The government has not indicated whether additional reforms to improve processing times will accompany the price adjustment.
