Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he hoped to announce the release of the hostages in Gaza "in the coming days."

"Hamas will disarm and Gaza will be liberated from military force, whether by simple or hard means; it will succeed," the prime minister said in a televised statement.

The remarks came after Hamas agreed last Friday to release hostages under a US peace plan.

But the group has made no mention of disarmament and has said it is willing to negotiate on other issues.

Hamas on Saturday accused Israel of continuing to commit "massacres" following its airstrikes in Gaza and called for international pressure.

Indirect ceasefire talks between Israel and Hamas are scheduled to begin in Egypt on Monday.

US President Donald Trump said he would "not tolerate" any delay by Hamas in implementing the deal.

"Hamas must act quickly, or the whole deal will be broken let’s do this quickly," Trump said in a post on his Twitter.

The US 20-point peace plan calls for an immediate end to the fighting and the release of 20 hostages held by Hamas, including those presumed dead.
