Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has accused the Australian Prime Minister of "betraying" Israel after he recently said he would recognize Palestine as a state.

Netanyahu also called them "abandoned" by the Australian Jewish community in their country.

"Strength is not measured by how many people you can blow up or how many people you can starve," Australian Foreign Minister Tony Burke told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, criticizing Israel.

Netanyahu said on Tuesday that history will remember Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese "for his personality, for his weak politics."

Prime Minister Netanyahu said this following the escalation of tensions between the two countries.

Australian Immigration Minister Tony Burke said the prime minister was "the one who unleashed this barrage" after he recently announced that he would join the United Kingdom, France and Canada in recognizing Palestine as a state

Australia on Monday banned members of the far-right party, which is part of Netanyahu's ruling coalition, from entering the country.
