The National Bank of Ethiopia has granted full approval to the Board of Directors of Ethiopian Reinsurance Share Company (EthioRe), marking a key milestone in the company’s governance and leadership framework.

The approved board is chaired by Dagnachew Mehari, Chief Executive Officer of Bunna Insurance S.C., who brings over three decades of experience in finance and insurance. Yonas Belay, Chief Growth and Strategy Officer at AGGAR Microfinance S.C., serves as vice chairperson.

Other members include Meseret Bezabih, CEO of United Insurance S.C.; Belay Gorfu, Chief Strategy and Transformation Officer at Nib International Bank; Kelebessa Kera, former director at the Ethiopian Insurance Corporation; Zufan Abebe, CEO of Nib Insurance S.C.; Birhanu Belayneh Fufa, co-founder of Birhanu & Amsale Insurance Brokers; Endalkachew Zelekew, CEO of Zemen Insurance S.C.; and Tefera Wondimu W/Mariyam, General Manager of Fana Insurance Brokers and former CEO of Lucy Insurance S.C.

EthioRe said the approval reflects the board’s collective expertise across banking, insurance, and financial regulation, reinforcing the company’s commitment to sound governance and sustainable leadership.
