General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, son of former President Yoweri Museveni and commander of Uganda’s armed forces, has posted a public warning to opposition presidential candidate Bobi Wine following the recent election.

In a message shared on social media, the general acknowledged the security provided to the opposition figure after the vote and stressed that Wine should be given a fair opportunity within 48 hours.

Wine, a former musician contesting the presidency for the seventh time at 81, said government security personnel had visited his residence prior to the announcement of results, actions he described as intimidation. He urged supporters to remain peaceful and warned that failure to comply with the 48-hour directive could lead to legal measures against any obstruction.

Observers note that the involvement of the military chief, who has close ties to the former president, highlights the delicate balance of power in Uganda’s post-election period and raises questions about the impartiality of security forces in ensuring a level playing field for opposition candidates.

The social media post has sparked extensive discussion online, drawing attention to the role of military influence in Uganda’s political landscape and the pressures faced by opposition figures during electoral processes.
