Desalegn Chane (PhD), a member of the House of People's Representatives, criticized the contradictory figures released by two senior government officials in the same day regarding the number of militants who "accepted the government's call for peace and laid down their arms" in the North Shewa Zone of the Amhara Region, in a post on his Facebook page.

In the Amhara region, the head of the North Shewa Zone Peace and Security Department, Nadzo, said that in July alone, “more than 3,100 militants have disarmed and joined the community.”

Meanwhile, the head of the Prosperity Party branch office in the zone, Elias Abebe, said that “more than 1,300 militants” have disarmed.

Member of Parliament Desalegn Chane (PhD) compared the figures provided by the two officials to "a market trader in Addis Ababa," citing the statistical differences.

"Mr. Nado and Ato Elias are cabinet members in the same zone," the MP said. "But the numbers they are calling are like a businessman calling prices with and without VAT. Is Mr. Nado's with VAT, Ato Elias's without VAT?" He added, "It is questionable to quote such contradictory numbers within thirty minutes of each other."
