Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said his three-day visit to Seychelles delivered significant outcomes that would strengthen relations between the two countries, with new cooperation agreements signed across several sectors.

In a social media statement, Modi said the India-Seychelles relationship over the past five decades had been built on trust and mutual progress, while the next 50 years would focus on innovation, sustainability and shared prosperity.

During the final day of the visit, Modi visited the Navasakti Vinayagar Temple in Victoria, where he offered prayers and met members of the Indian diaspora. He also paid floral tributes at the Mahatma Gandhi statue at Peace Park.

Modi also attended Seychelles’ National Day celebrations, which marked 50 years since the country gained independence. He thanked Seychelles President Patrick Herminie, the government and people of Seychelles for their hospitality.

During the visit, Modi became the first Indian prime minister to address the National Assembly of Seychelles. The two countries also exchanged several memorandums of understanding and agreements covering areas including digital payments, healthcare, agriculture, shipping, space cooperation, extradition and a line of credit.

The agreements are expected to expand cooperation between the two countries as India seeks to deepen strategic and economic ties in the Indian Ocean region.
