Minnesota Congresswoman Elhan Omar was targeted in a violent incident during a public gathering, local authorities confirmed. Police described the situation as “fluid” and said the full details were still being assessed.

Witnesses reported that Omar was exposed to an unidentified chemical substance during the event. Despite the attack, she remained composed, telling attendees, “We will continue to move forward. The residents of Minnesota are resilient,” as police escorted participants to safety.

Omar later posted on X, saying, “I am well. Being a strong person, I do not let minor issues affect me; my work is not hindered either. I do not allow any harm to befall me.”

Authorities apprehended the assailant outside his residence. According to reports, he made the statement, “We are destroying ourselves,” at the time of his arrest. BBC reporters on the scene noted that the substance used was a potent chemical agent.

Minneapolis Mayor condemned the attack, stating, “There is no place for violence and intimidation in Minneapolis. We can foster a diverse range of ideas without resorting to aggression.”

The Refugee Affairs Office reported that the heightened security presence in the city has coincided with a significant increase in public protests.
