MIDROC Investment Group will raise the minimum starting salary for its employees to 10,000 birr in the 2026/27 fiscal year, with the move expected to increase its wage bill by more than 3 billion birr, chief executive Jemal Ahmed said.

The pay increase follows 1.2 billion birr in bonuses paid to employees during the 2025/26 fiscal year, according to Jemal, who disclosed the figures at the group’s annual Family Day and employee recognition programme.

MIDROC paid 8.5 billion birr in salaries during the 2025/26 fiscal year, while generating 390 million US dollars in foreign exchange, Jemal said.

The group also rewarded 700 employees who recorded outstanding performance during the year, with each receiving between 100,000 birr and 500,000 birr.

Jemal said the group would continue to accelerate projects already under way and new investments, while calling on employees to improve accountability, transparency and productivity.

The chief executive said MIDROC had distributed 10 percent of its profit to employees, describing the group as an institution with responsibilities to its workers and the wider community.

The group operates across agriculture and agro-processing, manufacturing, mining, commerce, construction and real estate, and hospitality.
