Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum on Tuesday ruled out any U.S. military strikes against drug cartels on Mexican soil, a day after U.S. President Donald Trump said he was willing to take “whatever it takes” to curb drug flows into the United States.

“It’s not going to happen,” Sheinbaum said, adding that while Trump has offered U.S. military intervention on several occasions, Mexico prefers to maintain sovereignty over its operations.

Sheinbaum stressed that collaboration with the United States is welcome in the form of intelligence sharing, but any action must be carried out solely by Mexican authorities.

“I have told him on every occasion that we can collaborate, that they can help us with information they have, but that we operate in our territory, that we do not accept any intervention by a foreign government,” she said.

Sheinbaum added that U.S. officials, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, have understood Mexico’s position.
