Mexican President Claudia Schiffer has said she will file charges against a man who allegedly assaulted her during a public event.

A cellphone video released Tuesday shows her talking to supporters on a street near the National Palace in Mexico City.

In the footage, a man is seen coming up behind them, trying to kiss them on the neck and touching their bodies with his hands.

The president moved quickly and a member of her team was in the middle, but they were shocked by the action.

The attacker is in police custody.

"If I don't file a complaint, what will happen to other Mexican women? If they do this to their president, what will happen to all the women in the country?" the president said at a press conference on Wednesday.

President Claudia Schiffmann added that the decision to prosecute the suspect was made because the man had also harassed other women in the same situation.
