Mexican authorities have detained the municipal president of Atlatlahucan and five other officials as part of a major corruption and organised crime investigation in Morelos state. The operation also included the former mayor of Yecapixtla.

Special prosecutor Ulises Lara confirmed the arrests, stating they are linked to suspected illicit networks operating within local government structures.

Authorities also took financial measures, blocking bank accounts of 22 individuals and 10 organisations suspected of involvement in the corruption network.

The coordinated action is part of a wider probe into corruption and organised crime links in the region.

The arrests highlight ongoing efforts by Mexican authorities to tackle corruption at the local government level.
