Meta has entered a strategic partnership with Reliance Industries to develop an AI-enabled data centre in Gujarat, marking a significant expansion of its infrastructure footprint in one of its fastest-growing markets.

The facility will be built in Jamnagar by Reliance and will have an initial capacity of 168 MW. Meta will lease the capacity, with provisions allowing for future expansion as demand for computing power increases.

The companies said the project is designed to support Meta’s artificial intelligence systems and global product infrastructure, while reinforcing its long-term investment in India’s digital economy.

The data centre will be powered by renewable energy and will use desalinated seawater for cooling, with Meta covering the associated energy and water costs.

Mark Zuckerberg, founder and chief executive of Meta, said the partnership strengthens the company’s infrastructure base in a key market.

“We’re proud to be working with Reliance to build our first AI-enabled data centre in India,” he said, adding that the facility would support Meta’s global AI expansion and deepen its investment in the country.
