Ethiopian Media Professionals Association Calls for Justice Against Perpetrators Responsible for the Abduction of Journalists

The association announced in a post on its official Facebook page that journalist Abdusameed, the host of the Kidame Gebeya program on Ahadu FM 94.3 FM Radio, has been released after 12 days, and journalist Yonas, the senior editor of the Reporter newspaper, has been released after 10 days of detention and has returned to their homes.

The association called the journalists' disappearance for more than 10 days "an illegal act" and called for the perpetrators to be held accountable before the law.

Its stated that it is unacceptable to suppress and harass journalists, even if they have committed a crime, rather than questioning them in accordance with the law; he pointed out that such actions erode the media environment in a country and restrict citizens' right to freedom of expression.

The association also urged stakeholders to create an enabling environment for journalists to work freely in the interests of the country and the people.
