Residents of the southern Tigray Zone town of Mayichew held a peaceful demonstration today to protest the recent leadership changes made by the Tigray Interim Administration, led by Lieutenant General Tadesse Werede, regional media reported.
The demonstration took place after the President of the Tigray Interim Administration, Lieutenant General Tadesse Werede, removed the former administrator of the Southern Tigray Zone, Haftu Kiros, from power and appointed Ato Zinabu Gebremedhin, a member of the TPLF Central Committee, on August 24, 2025.
After Ato Zinabu was appointed, community representatives and local residents met with him to express their concerns about the leadership change.
During the peaceful demonstration, the demonstrators demanded that the interim administration respect the people's right to self-government and rejected what they called "a forced leadership position."
