Tripoli and Brussels are moving to reframe their energy partnership around renewable power and economic diversification, with officials saying the shift could support Libya’s recovery and enhance Europe’s energy security, Libya News Agency reported.
The announcement followed talks in Tripoli on Sunday between Khalifa Abdul Sadiq Al-Sadig, Libya’s oil minister, and Nicola Orlando, the European Union’s ambassador. The meeting explored how existing cooperation programmes could be redirected to climate action and long-term sustainable growth.
Orlando said on his official account that the dialogue expanded on last week’s conference on a just and sustainable energy transition. He noted that oil smuggling, which continues to sap Libya’s revenues, was a central concern, calling for domestic reforms backed by coordinated international efforts.
The ambassador added that greater involvement of women and young people will be prioritized in future projects, as both sides look to build a more inclusive energy economy.
