Ethiopia’s Kerchanshe Group has partnered with Brazil’s Agricultural Research Corporation, Embrapa, to advance coffee production and agricultural technology, following the Ethiopia–Brazil Trade and Investment Forum in Addis Ababa on February 6, 2026.

The agreement targets coffee development in Debeka, Abaya Woreda, West Guji Zone of Oromia, with joint efforts planned on quality control systems, modern production techniques, and capacity-building for farm workers.

State Minister of Agriculture Efa Muleta said the pact would support Ethiopia’s economic growth, pledging government follow-up and support to ensure effective implementation.

Kerchanshe Group chief executive Israel Degafa highlighted the similarities between Ethiopia and Brazil in agriculture and said the agreement would facilitate the transfer of Brazil’s agricultural development experience, particularly in coffee production and related technologies.

The signing was attended by senior government officials, Brazilian Ambassador Jandyr Ferreira dos Santos, and Embrapa President Silvia Maria Fonseca Silveira Massruhá.

Kerchanshe currently exports coffee seedlings to over 20 countries, reflecting Ethiopia’s growing role in global coffee value chains.

Embrapa, a research body under Brazil’s Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply, is known for its work in plant genetic improvement, soil-plant systems, bio-inputs, and climate-smart agricultural practices. Its international cooperation programmes support knowledge exchange, technical capacity-building, and technology transfer across Africa and Latin America.
